2021 YeBo Scouting in Schools Orientation

The YeBo Scouts programme has been running since 2017, but this year saw a substantial expansion of the programme.  64 YeBoneers were recruited to join the Scouting in Schools Programme from communities across the Cape Metro.  Scouts South Africa also appointed 4 Mentors to assist in the coaching and management of the YeBoneers.

Between the 24th of February and the 9th of March, we facilitated an intensive orientation programme for the new YeBoneers to induct them and prepare them for their roles in schools.  Training consisted of a two-day focused programme to onboard them and orientate them to the programme.  This was followed by a one week “technical training” for the YeBoneers in Scouting Skills – a course called “Introduction to Adult Leadership” which was facilitated by ScoutsSA.  Their training culminated in a Navigators Hike for all the YeBoneers.

On 16th March we hosted a YeBo Scouts School Onboarding meeting at the River Club in Observatory.  The meeting was attended by 31 schools and information was distributed to the schools regarding the programme, its benefits and expectations. Scouts YeBoneers officially started working in schools on 22nd March.  During their first week at schools, they were given the opportunity to recruit learners for the Scouts programme and had opportunities to get to know the learners and staff.
