About the programme
What is the Planet Youth Programme?
The YearBeyond Planet Youth Programme works with low- and no-fee public schools to tackle substance abuse among Grade 8-9 learners. Leveraging the Icelandic Model for Preventing Adolescent Substance Use, the programme strengthens protective factors, reduces risk factors, and builds healthy and resilient community environments.
What do YeBoneers do?
YeBoneers on the YearBeyond Planet Youth Programme serve as Planet Youth Facilitators.
As a YeBoneer in thePlanet Youth Programme your role will include (amongst other activities):
Promote Wellbeing: Provide counselling, life skills, and psychosocial support to individuals and groups during the school day.
Conduct Research: Administer surveys to gather insights that drive impactful change.
Run After-School Activities: Facilitate fun and engaging programmes that keep learners motivated and connected in a supportive environment that encourages positive choices.
Track Progress: Collect data on learner attendance and programme activities to drive success.
What are the eligibility requirements?
You can apply for the YearBeyond Planet Youth Programme if:
You are 21-25 years old.
You have a matric certificate.
You live within a 5km radius of one of the schools where the programme is implemented.
You are outgoing, love listening to people, and enjoy working with learners.
Meeting these eligibility requirements does not guarantee selection for the programme. To be considered, you must meet the eligibility requirements and then be selected through the recruitment selection process.
