On 17th October 2017, the National School of Government awarded the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and the Department of the Premier for Excellence in Youth Development Training. The award was in recognition of the MOD YearBeyond (YeBo) programme and was conferred at the Public Sector Trainers Forum (PSTF) Awards during the 19th PTSF conference.

Each year, the PTSF Awards recognises practitioners and Departmental units or Departments that have worked hard to support capacity building of government officials to contribute towards the achievement of national objectives. YeBo was nominated for the category “Excellence in Youth Development Training”, which awards outstanding institutional contributions to youth development.

Implemented since 2014 as the academic pillar of the After School Game Changer, YeBo aims to support young people in the Western Cape by improving the academic outcomes of learners from low-resourced schools, while also supporting the advancement of the young volunteers who deliver the programme. YeBo is implemented as a collaboration between the Western Cape Government (i.e. Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Department of Education, and the Department of the Premier), the NGO sector, the higher education sector and the private sector.

The PSTF Award highlights YeBo’s efforts in supporting youth development through a truly holistic lense. YeBo will continue to strive for excellence in the years beyond.
